The cylinder liner forms the precision-finished cylindrical bore in which the piston and rings reciprocate. Marine engine liners are cast from special alloyed iron grades providing the optimal combination of hardness, thermal conductivity, and tribological properties. The bore surface has a controlled cross-hatch honing pattern that retains the cylinder oil film critical to ring and liner longevity.
